Transports in Milan

Milano - how to move around

ATM (Azienda Trasporti Milanesi) operates within the metropolitan area, managing a public transport network consisting of three metropolitan railway lines and 120 tram, trolley-bus and bus lines. ATM manages also interchange parking lots and on-street parking spaces in the historical centre and in the commercial zones using the SostaMilano parking card system. The cost of a ticket is 1 Euro (it was converted in 2002), with a ticket you can travel 75 minutes.

There are also the trains of the Passante Ferroviario, they arrive from Varese or Saronno to the center of the city (Repubblica, Porta Venezia, Dateo). See www.trenitalia.com for timetables.

In both cases you must buy the ticket before get to the stations. You can use ATM city ticket to use the Passante if you stay inside Milan, otherwise you can buy a kilometer ticket corresponding to your destination (e.g. 15 Km to Rho). Of course the ticket machines in the passante are often out of service, and the trains can be extremely late some days. If you have coins, use the ATM tickets machines .

I don't know a lot of things abot taxi service, it's not for me. Anyway, you can call a Taxi or find one in places like Stazione Centrale, Amendola Square, airports and so on.
